Happy Birthday, Missouri Star Quilt Company!

Thank you, Jenny ❤️

It is hard to even come up with the words to express just how much Jenny Doan and the entire Missouri Star Quilt Company has helped me in grow as a quilter. I know it sounds a little silly, but I actually tear up thinking about it (I am that big of a mush, aren’t I?).

Let me explain.

Before YouTube and luckily, Jenny, there wasn’t much out there for us quilters. Sure, there was Alex Anderson TV show on HGTV called Simply Quilts along with other shows on PBS, but it was limited. YouTube really opened up the home crafter’s world, allowing us, as quilters, to gain on-demand quilting tutorials to help us learn how to quilt, give us tips, tricks, and more. It gave us a community, a tribe, people like us. Don’t get me wrong—I LOVE Alex Anderson (call me, Alex! Let’s work together! 😋), Eleanor Burns, Fons and Porter, and, of course, the late great Nancy Zieman. With the dawn of the wonderful world wide web came newsgroups (remember those) where you could swap fabrics, blocks, and more. Then there was Flickr (is that still around?) to feed our visual cravings. But YouTube—oh YouTube, really made quilting tutorials widely available and gave us all the camaraderie was longed for!

But Back to Jenny Doan and Missouri Star Quilt Company:

A huge part of this awakening (is that the right word?) was Jenny at the perfect place in the perfect time. I needed this. I had teenagers at home. I NEEDED THIS. Jenny, if you are reading this, I SO NEEDED THIS.

And now, 16 years later, I am actually partnered with this amazing company. Let’s be honest—Jenny probably doesn’t know me by name (maybe someday, Jenny? Call me! 😀), but for now, I am thrilled—SO THRILLED—to be a small part of the quilting community on YouTube and to be a small part of this amazing company.

To celebrate, they actually sent ME—yes, ME—gifts! How cool is that?

Here are the items I received for MSQC’s birthday.

Handpicked Produce (Fanciful Florals) Orange Fizz by Riley Blake Designs

As many of you know, my favorite color is orange. This is so fitting for me! I LOVE this Rollie Pollie 2.5” strip set. The colors are not too bright and not too muted.

They are just right. Interested in this set? Click HERE.

Chelsea Garden by Moda

These florals are just gorgeous! They remind me of the calicos from the 1980s and 1990s with a more modern flair.

Plum Thread

I also received three spools of Missouri Star Quilt Company’s thread. This wonderful color is plum. It is 100% cotton, 50 weight, and each spool contains 500 yards—that’s 1500 yards of thread goodness. YESSSSS!

You can purchase this exact thread by clicking HERE.

“The Basics” Thread

This set is perfectly curated and perfectly named. It really does include the basics! Colors included in this 5-piece set are off-white, beige, black, gray, and white. How can you go wrong with this set?

Olga Rotary Cutter & Five Replacement Blades

I know, I know—we all have our favorite rotary cutters, don’t we? It is kind of like laundry detergent: we will never change. At least that my attitude with rotary cutters. That is until I tried the Missouri Star Quilt Company’s rotary cutter that came in the toolbox. I love this rotary cutter! It is perfectly weighted, cuts smooth like butter, and is super easy to change blades. Not to worry. These take 45mm blades, so if you have other 45mm blades in your sewing room, they will fit this cutter.

Interested? Click HERE for the rotary cutter and HERE for the blades.

Jenny’s Signature Apron

Have you ever noticed that Jenny wears an apron while sewing? It is such a good idea! You can protect your clothes from all the lint, you can keep things in your pockets, and you look good while wearing it! Win, win, win! Want one? Click HERE to order yours!

ALL of these wonderful goodies! Thank you, Missouri Star Quilt Company! ❤️
